I helped write an original song!
In January, I was given the opportunity to write a song for an event called MUSEMATCH: A Musical Theater Blind Date - a series where artists are paired with writers on a "blind date" during which they are asked to share themselves authentically, in order to reach new artistic territory. A friend and I collaborated with our performer, Seth Eliser, and wrote a new piece to highlight his talents.
For this song we focused in on Seth’s story and talents. The opening sounds of trumpet are recordings from Seth’s dad who is a musician himself.
Lyrics to Right On Time:
Verse 1:
Weeping tree in the breeze
Honeysuckle birds and bees
The hand me downs and out of towns
Please come speak for me
CHORUS.
when your heart is breaking
And you’re letting go
come back running to what I know
When we were kids, we never felt the weight
we’ll pick up the pieces together now.
Though we have this distance I feel somehow
Everything to happen is right on time
Verse 2:
Been here before
And The salty waves against the ocean floor
And The starry nights that keep me company
Oh oh oh oh Natures sweet melody
See I’m - Running away, i’ve got - nothing to say
Am I - worthy of words, Find them another way
CHORUS
when your heart is breaking
And you’re letting go
come back running to what I know
When we were kids, we never felt the weight
we’ll pick up the pieces together now.
Though we have this distance I feel somehow
Everything to happen is right on time
Oh, oh, oh , oh
Oh, oh, oh , oh
Oh, oh, oh , oh (part for the audience to repeat)
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright
